Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone (GETDZ) in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, held a ceremony on Jan 10 to honor technicians in the development zone, local media reported.
A total of 265 technicians were awarded a total of 939,000 yuan ($136,868) in incentives.

The activity was part of GETDZ's efforts to select outstanding technicians over the past three years. A total of 1,126 technicians were selected, including 17 three-star technicians, 104 two-star technicians and 1,005 one-star technicians.
The three-star technicians were awarded 50,000 yuan, two-star technicians 20,000 yuan and one-star technicians 1000 yuan, with the cumulative amount reaching about 3.94 million yuan.
As part of the development zone's efforts to foster professionals and skilled technicians, the mechanism of selecting and rewarding the "craftsman star" has won acclaim from both employers and employees in GETDZ.
Liu Ruqing, the deputy general manager of Guizhou Aerospace Fenghua Precision Equipment Co, said that the company's employees actively participate in the selection activities every year, and it has also learned valuable lessons from the selection activities.
Based on the evaluation system of skilled technicians in the development zone, the company has developed a set of evaluation procedures and training standards for front-line skilled employees, which are helpful for the company in introducing and training new employees, Liu said.
GETDZ will continue to provide high-quality services for skilled technicians in an effort to attract more to the area, officials said.
