During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone (GETDZ) achieved significant progress, with its GDP growing at an average of 13 percent annually, according to local media reports on Jan 22. The zone is located in Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

During the five-year period, the number of approved high-tech enterprises in the zone increased to 111. Its comprehensive development level among national economic development zones jumped from 109 in 2016 to 76 in 2019.

GETDZ made continuous innovations in big data security and new digital infrastructure construction and has won many top national titles and honors. It has also taken the lead in building a digital management platform for major projects in the province.

It has constructed a "1+2+3+n" industrial financial service system, enhancing financial services in the real economy, deepening the reform of State-owned enterprises and promoting the strategic restructuring and substantive transformation of these companies.

During the past five years, GETDZ has transformed and reconstructed 12 shantytowns and continuously optimized its environment, reaching an "excellent" air quality rating of 99.1 percent.

In addition, while actively introducing several high-quality medical and educational resource projects, the zone has invested more than 70 million yuan ($10.81 million), implemented 135 assistance measures and projects, and helped 28,822 people out of poverty in 36 poverty-stricken villages.
