GETDZ acts to help rid Ziyun county of poverty

The Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone (GETDZ) in Guiyang city, capital of southwestern Guizhou province, recently made a move to help lift the poorest in Ziyun county out of poverty.

Zone officials said the GETDZ promoted sweet potatoes that were produced in Ziyun county at the 2019 Guiyang International Special Agricultural Products Fair held in Guiyang on Sept 25-29.

An area that has pledged to assistant Ziyun county, the GETDZ installed a marketing stand at the fair to sell the potatoes.

The cultivation of sweet potatoes is one of the main industries that helps alleviate poverty in the county and each year Ziyun produces a crop of more than 3 million kilograms.

The county brought more than 2,500 kg of sweet potatoes to the fair for on-site sales, as well as to further raise the product's brand profile.

In previous moves to help the development of the sweet potato sectors and other industries in Ziyun county, the GETDZ has made full use of e-commerce platforms in the zone.

It has also reached out to supermarkets to help Ziyun county, to tackle poverty through a combination of online and offline commerce.

Officials said that in the past three years, 29 GETDZ departments have gone to 19 villages in Ziyun county repeatedly in poverty-alleviation initiatives and 52 assistance projects have been implemented.

It is estimated that over the past three years, 6.32 million yuan ($895,045) has been invested in poverty-alleviation assistance industries.

Officials said 13 industrial projects have been implemented, industrial support infrastructure has been built and 15,109 poverty-stricken people have benefited.

They said that currently, the GETDZ is continuing to push forwards further assistance actions, ensuring that in 2019 it successfully helped another 13,000 people in Ziyun county out of poverty.
